To receive certification as a forklift operator, you have to undergo training on an industrial-powered lift truck, or forklift. The training should be specific to the forklift attachments and type that you would be using on the job site. Training should also reflect the atmosphere wherein you will be working. Forklift safety must be a main concern for both the operator trainee and the trainer.
General Credentials
Prior to assuming any operator duties, all forklift drivers must undergo both training and certification. Basic credentials for using a forklift include being at least eighteen years old and the physical capacity to operate and control the unit safely.

The top concern of any forklift driver must be the safety of pedestrians. Telescopic forklifts offer height and versatility. These units are equipped with a pronged lift on an arm which extends over the top of the truck. The arm, or crane, is referred to as a telescopic boom. The boom allows the operator to maintain a high degree of control while raising the load to great heights. Standard forklifts aren't able to move the cargo towards and away from the forklift cab, while a telescopic forklift allows that movement. The telescopic forklift is usually used in both agriculture and construction. It is better for applications where greater lift and control is necessary.
A forklift carton clamp attachments are recommended in situations needing high volume carton handling. The attachment has arm pads with four way reversible rubber linings which enable the operator to use uniform clamping force when picking up a cargo.
