New Meaning to Environmental Responsibility
Toyota Industries Corporation, as the parent company, has instilled a rich company doctrine of environmental stewardship in Toyota. Not a lot of other corporations and no other lift truck producer can match Toyota’s record of caring for the environment while concurrently advancing the economy. Environmental responsibility is a fundamental aspect of corporate decision making at Toyota and they are proud to be the first and only producer to provide UL-listed, EPA- and CARB-certified Compressed Natural Gas powered lift trucks. Yet an added reason they remain a leader within the industry.
In 2006, Toyota introduced the 8-Series line. The 8-Series signifies both Toyota’s innovation and leadership in the industry. It features an exclusive emission system that surpasses Federal EPA emission principles, and also meets Maryland’s more elaborate 2010 emission standards. The end invention is a lift vehicle that produces 70 percent fewer smog forming emissions than the present Federal standards allow.
Also starting in 2006, together with the Arbor Day Foundation, Toyota added to its commitment to the natural environment. To this day more than 58,000 trees have been embedded in the ground throughout national forests and community parks that were damaged by fires and other ecological causes. 10,500 seedlings have also been scattered through Toyota Industrial Equipment’s network of sellers to non-profit organizations and local consumers to help sustain communities all over the U.S.
Industry Leader in Safety
Toyota’s lift trucks offer superior productivity, visibility, ergonomics and resilience, and most significantly, the industry’s leading safety technology. The company’s System of Active Stability, often known as “SAS”, helps decrease the possibility of mishaps and injuries, in addition to increasing productivity levels while minimizing the potential for product and equipment breakage.
System Active Stability senses many aspects that could lead to lateral volatility and possible lateral overturn. When any of those factors are detected, SAS instantly engages the Swing Lock Cylinder to stabilize the rear axle. This changes the lift truck’s stability footprint from triangular in shape to rectangular, providing a major increase in stability which substantially reduces the probability of an accident from a lateral overturn. The Active Mast Function Controller or the Active Control Rear Stabilizer also assists to prevent injuries or accidents while adding strength.
SAS was originally introduced to the market on the 7-Series internal combustion products in 1999 and subsequently catapulted Toyota into the industry leader for safety. Since then, SAS continues to be integrated into nearly all of Toyota’s internal combustion models. It is standard gear on the new 8-Series. There are more than 100,000 SAS-equipped lift trucks in operation, exceeding 450 million hours combined. The increased population of SAS-equipped trucks in the field, along with mandatory operator instruction, overturn fatalities across all models have decreased by 13.6% since 1999. Furthermore, there have been an overall 35.5% decrease in industry wide collisions, loss of control, falls and overturn from a lift vehicle for the same period.
Toyota’s rigid values reach far beyond the machinery itself. The company believes in providing widespread Operator Safety Training courses to help customers meet and exceed OSHA standard 1910.178. Education packages, video lessons and assorted materials, covering a broad scope of matters—from individual safety, to OSHA policies, to surface and load conditions, are accessible through the seller network.
Toyota's U.S. Commitment

Situated in Columbus, Ind., the Toyota Industrial Equipment Mfg. campus equals 998,000 square feet of facilities across 126 acres. Facilities include a National Customer Center, as well as manufacturing operations and supply centers for equipment and service components, with the entire investment exceeding $113 million dollars.
The new NCC was built to serve TMHU buyers and sellers. The facility includes a 360-degree showroom, a presentation theater complete with stadium seating for 32, an area for live product demonstrations with seating capability for 120; a presentation theater; Toyota’s Hall of Fame showcasing Toyota’s history since the birth of its founder, Sakichi Toyoda, in 1867, and lastly a education center.
